Reality TV on TV is on overload, stop the madness. First of all can we please stop calling it reality TV as most of the situations that you see happening on “Reality TV” are a product of the environment. Consider the TV show that started all the latest rage of “Reality TV” a little show by Mark Burnett called Survivor.
This is the show and the man that are pretty much credited with starting the latest TV revolution away from scripted TV to reality TV. Here is the problem with the whole concept of reality TV for the most part it is all scripted except for peoples reactions and sometime it seems like those are scripted as well. I mean let’s face it what are the odds that you will end up on an island some day stranded with no food or water. But wait you can get those if you compete against these other people in front of our cameras. I am sure that scenario happens to people around the world everyday before reality TV came to be, uh not!
Now don’t get me wrong this kind of TV has created some great TV entertainment to watch and has only fueled a generation of you tubers. I just wanted to raise the question of how much do you honestly believe that any of this reality TV is actually showing us anything that is based in reality. Who will honestly act the same way in life if they knew that it was going to be recorded for possibly millions of people to see. No one that is who. People love to get attention whether it be of your family or friends we all love to get the attention of another person. Now amp that up by the possibility of millions of people. Imagine the rational thoughts that must go out the door if you are a person the knowingly goes into a “reality TV show”.
It’s fun theatrical entertainment to watch, I was just raising the question that perhaps it should be labeled something other than “reality TV” as nothing about these shows is truly reality. Any ideas? Leave your opinions with a comment or two.
