Yes you read that headline correctly. Have you heard the news about the new Yahoo Connected TV Group? It’s a new division of Yahoo that is committed to bringing the worlds of internet and TV together to create what they are calling “The Cinematic Internet” or more simply internet connected TV. You see in case you did not know it there are digital TVs that will soon be on the market with ability to use internet technologies.
This mixing of these two communication mediums has been a dream for a lot of people for quite a long time now and we are about to see the dream become a reality. Yahoo’s popular widget engine is being utilized to create TV widgets. Just imagine seeing those popular widgets that so many millions of people now have on their computer desktops and seeing them on your TV.
That’s going to become a mainstream reality here in 2009, thanks in big part to big move to an all digital TV signal in 2009. By the end of this year many of us will be using Yahoo’s TV widgets to not only display popular Yahoo widgets like Flickr, Yahoo News, Yahoo Weather, Yahoo Video and Yahoo Finance. These will only be scratching the surface of how other corporations hope to get their widgets in front of you on your TV screen in 2009. We can also expect to see widgets from other popular internet sites like Twitter, MySpace, Blockbuster, NY Times, eBay and many many others.
So what are your thoughts on the new blending of TV and internet that is about to happen to all of us? Do you think you will be eager to jump on the band wagon for the new digital age of TV/Internet? Do I really need to see who is emailing me while I am sitting in front of my TV? This is bringing us just one more step closer to combining TVs, computers and any other form of media communication. How long before we see and do it all on one fully loaded box or TV screen?
